THE easiest solution to sagging breasts is to buy a good bra. At least that is what most Ugandan women do. The joke is that bras come in the Catholic, Baptist and Salvation Army varieties.
You get a penny for guessing what the Catholic and Baptist bras are like but for sagging breasts, one would be advised to buy the Salvation Army kind of bra. According to this joke, it is the one that lifts the fallen.
Thank God for the guy who invented a bra, but the brassiere industry does have its limitations. For instance, no matter how long one wears a bra, the fallen breasts will never stand on their own again. Well, it is just the reason to thank God for yet another industry; the cosmetic surgery one. It may sound like the kind of vanity industry that was made only for the likes of Michael Jackson and Kelly Rowland, but even you can benefit from it.
Does Uganda have surgeons and facilities for doing a breast-lift? “Yes,†says Dr. Rose Alenyo, a plastic surgeon at Mulago Hospital. “We, the surgeons here can do breast-lifts but it would be a private arrangement. It is not part of Mulago’s list of reconstructive surgeries,†she says. However, it can be done at the hospital’s private wing.
The first step would be to go for consultation with a plastic surgeon. Mulago Hospital has at least three.
The surgeon would examine your breasts, talk to you about what you want and judge what technique he or she will use in lifting your breasts and, of course, how much you would pay for the procedure.
Basically, a breast-lift procedure involves removing some excess skin from your breasts. When there is less skin around the breast, there is less room for them to sag and so the fallen will stand again. However, the procedure leaves some scaring, is a major operation taking one to three hours in theatre and is usually done under general anaesthesia. There also is a chance that one may lose some sensation in their nipples after the surgery. It also does not prevent future re-sagging of the breasts. Dramatic weight loss, gravity, pregnancy and age may cause the breasts to sag again.
