By Gilbert Mwijuke THE Kampala auditions, which were held at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on August 22, produced six finalists. When the Miss Uganda team travelled to Fort Portal, the search for the most beautiful girl in the country produced a rather disappointing result: None.
“All the girls who turned up were shorter than the required height of at least 5ft 7,†Joyce Church, the Miss Uganda director, revealed after the Fort Portal auditions.
And when the final regional auditions were held at the Imperial Royale Hotel on Saturday, only four more girls met the judges’ requirements, which included self-confidence, body shape and intelligence among other factors.
“Most girls were short and not confident enough, while others were above the age of 24,†said Church, who led the team of judges that included pageant promoters Richard Sebadduka and Sarah Nyamwenge.
Together, the 10 girls who impressed the judges are Caroline Nantumbwe; 23, Grace Kiwanuka, 23; Tina Atim, 20; Agnes Atim, 23; Joan Atiem, 18; Brenda Ibbara, 21; Mable Amwagale, 21; Beatrice Asio, 19; Mary Kirabo, 20 and Lola Naggayi, 22.
Church says if four other girls who meet the standards surface by Wednesday, they might be given a chance.
Her team intended to have 15 finalists but if there are no more successful candidates, they will stick with the 10. They will be joined by Miss Uganda UK 2009 winner, Maria Namiro, who will also contest in the grand finale.
The finalists will be unveiled to the public at a reveal party this Saturday, and the grand finale will be held on September 26, at the Imperial Royale Hotel. This year’s event will also see the crowing of the first ever Mr. Uganda.
