Dear Doctor, How can one stop bad odor from the private parts even after a bath? Rose
Dear Rose, The main cause of the problem is overgrowth of organisms in the vagina. Bacterial vaginosis is the most common cause of a foul smelling vaginal discharge and it may cause pain during intercourse.
However, other bacterial infections like chlamydia and gnorrhoea can cause the smell, but can be treated with antibiotics.
Candida too, can cause the smell. It may also be a sign of cancer of the cervix or vagina.
Leakage of urine may also cause the smell. You should visit a gynaecologist for help, take regular baths using unscented soaps and avoid deep washing of the vagina.
