THE Police in Kayunga districtare holding a 60-year-old man who allegedly masqueraded as the regional CID officer. Hajji Haruna Sserwadda Musoke is said to have conned Mariam Nakalembe, the mother of the late Sam Kubo, who was recently lynched by tenants in Kayonza sub-county.

The district Police commander, Charles Nuwagira, said Musoke was a resident of Kyebando, a Kampala suburb. The Police said Musoke went to Nakalembe’s home at Nawandagala and asked for sh60,000 to transport the suspects who lynched her son from Ntenjeru prison to Luzira, alleging that officers from Kayunga Police Station were planning to release the murderers.

Nakalembe offered him sh45,000 and promised to pay the balance later. “When Musoke left, the woman called us and asked whether we knew him,” Nuwagira said.

Musoke was arrested at Bukolooto. He denied the charge and said he introduced himself to Nakalembe as a witchdoctor and asked for sh60,000 for medicine to ensure that the suspects are condemned to death.
