FOUR girls were rescued from a suspected plot to sacrifice them. The girls from Puva village in Arua district were found at a traditional medicineman’s home in Kinagozi near Masindi town on Saturday.

Relatives had been searching for Scovia, 17, Agnes, 15, Judy, 19 and Monica, 15, who went missing on August 16 this year. Narrating their ordeal, Agnes said they were lured by Wilson Oviti, a local bicycle repairer, who promised them jobs as barmaids in Masindi town.

“Oviti met us at the market and talked of a man in Masindi who wanted barmaids, and that we were to be paid sh30,000 per month,” Agnes narrated.

She said their journey from Arua started on August 16, when Oviti picked them up. They, however, became suspicious when they spent that night at a local medicineman, David Onziku’s home before travelling to Masindi the next day.

“On arrival, we were taken to a bushy home where we found a man sitting on the veranda. He welcomed us and showed us a small hut that would be our home,” Agnes recalled. She said their fears were confirmed a week later when they were told that one girl could take the day off as the rest went to work.

The girl who remained behind was required to dig a pit in a small hut they had been barred from entering. Agnes said they refused but instead sneaked into the hut where they found seven jerricans of blood and three human skulls.

The girls told the bar workers about what they had seen and asked them to inform their relatives. A phone text message was sent to one of the girls’ brother who went to Masindi and rescued them.

The West Nile regional police commander, Patrick Otika-Akubu, said they had arrested Oviti and Onziku to help in the investigations.
