EDITOR—Having dubbed the recent succession farces in Togo, Cuba and Russia ‘Eyadema succeeds Eyadema’, ‘Castro succceeds Castro’ and ‘Putin succeeds Putin (himself)’, I now have the privilege of dubbing the political theatre on the streets of Libreville, Gabon, as ‘Bongo succeeds Bongo’.

Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi, who has just feted African despots in celebration of his 40 years since overthrowing King Idriss only now to install himself as the ‘king of kings’, says ‘revolutionaries do not retire.”

He has groomed one of his sons to take over when divine intervention strikes eventually. Gaddafi’s United States of Africa is the wrong US for Africa!

Africa’s pretty rotten culture of political inheritance through illegal amendments to constitutions, phony elections and vote theft must stop forthwith. If the people ‘overwhelmingly voted for Ali Bongo’, why are they rioting on the streets?
