A former local government minister in Milton Obote’s regime has accused Olara Otunnu of being involved in a coup that overthrew the government.

Edward Rurangaranga urged Otunnu, a former UN diplomat, to apologise, saying he fled the country during the turmoil that left many people suffering while others lost their lives and property.

“You cannot participate in a coup that killed people and later turn around and say you want to lead,” he said.

He, however, added that the Uganda People’s Congress party is ready to pardon Otunnu if he asks for forgiveness.

“We want to unite for the benefit of our party,” Rurangaranga said while explaining why he dodged Otunnu’s tour of Bushenyi district last Tuesday.
