THE Kampala City engineer, Steven Kinyera, has been suspended for allegedly failing to perform his duties. Kinyera is accused of failing to implement projects of the Kampala City Council despite the availability of funds.

Sources said the town clerk, Ruth Kijjambu, wrote to him communicating his suspension.

Kinyera is allegedly accused of failure to implement the repair of the leaking roof of the city hall, the dilapidated city mortuary at Mulago and the Old Taxi Park.

Kinyera was also queried over the recent works on Binaisa Road, next to Mulago round-about. The works ministry had questioned KCC over the construction of an access road to the Shell fuel station, which has since been halted.

In 2006, Kinyera took over as director for works and urban planning, replacing engineer Abraham Byandala who has since joined Parliament.

KCC has come under fire over the poor state of the roads and other KCC facilities.
