Diet has an influence on the smell. Red meats are known to make the smell stronger. Similar to the smell of the foods.
Other factors include frequency of ejaculation, stress and general health. Extremely foul smelling semen may be a sign of infection especially if it is blood stained or associated with pus like discharge.
The itching may be a sign of an infection. Bacterial vaginosis may explain the itching and foul smell. Candidasis also causes itching in women and this may be worse after intercourse.
