EDITOR—The Bunyoro kingdom spokesman, Henry Ford Mirima, has time and again attempted to rewrite history by falsely claiming that Buganda’s rise to what it is today was mainly at the expense of Bunyoro and that it could not have taken place without the help of the British colonialists.

How come Mirima never talks about Bunyoro’s loss of Ankole, Toro, Kigezi and the Kagera basin? He should know that in the 1700s and 1800s annexation battles were fought all over the place and the result was that areas that once paid allegiance to Buganda could later pay allegiance to Bunyoro and vice versa.

By the time the British colonialists stepped on the scene, the tide of such struggles had shifted in favour of Buganda because Bunyoro was down and out, much as they had a ‘fierce’ king in Kabalega.

Buganda is not what it is just because of the British. How come we are still the dominant ethnicity in Uganda in matters social, political and economic in spite of all recent deliberate attempts to change this position?

The likes of Mirima are so short-sighted in thinking Buganda is Bunyoro’s greatest enemy.
Instead of fighting Buganda, Bunyoro should concentrate on its newly discovered oil fortune.
