THE Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) of Denmark, is putting up water sources for 151,420 people in Nakapiripirit and Moroto districts. The project is funded by the European Union.

Communities in Karamoja are the beneficiaries and have been called upon to utilise and maintain the water facilities for thier benefit. The ADRA Uganda public relations officer, Booker Ajuoga, made the appeal while handing over a rehabilitated borehole to communities in Narengekito- le village in Lokopo sub-county, Moroto on Saturday.

“The water facilities that we have established are for your own good. Use them with care to the benefit of the people in the surrounding areas,” Ajuoga said. He said the sources will also be used to provide water for livestock.

The state minister for water, Jennifer Namuyangu, earlier this year, launched a campaign to encourage the maintenance of water facilities in Karamoja.

However, most water sources have been vandalised, making the communities suffer during drought. The Karimojong use borehole pipes for making ear rings and bungles among other things.

The Moroto district LC5 chairman, Peter Ken Lochap, asked the community to take care of water facilities, saying water is life.
