Royco advert might fuel violence against women

ROYCO has been running an advertisement on radio about a man who expresses annoyance and rejects the food his wife places before him as not appetising until she uses Royco.

MIFUMI has attended to hundreds of women who are badly beaten and even killed because their husbands do not like the style of cooking or are served with vegetables rather than meat! Many of these women are too poor to afford meat or Royco. So this advertisement really leaves me shocked.

I appreciate that Royco needs to sell its products but unfortunately this advertisement gives the message that it is alright for men to abuse their wives over bad food.

Even more worrying is that it will make women think they deserve to be beaten over bad cooking.

I request Royco to rethink its advertisements to avoid fuelling violence against women and sexism, while maintaining their creativity. For instance, a man presenting his wife with steaming food seasoned with Royco would so impress her that you would have all the men in town running to supermarkets to buy Royco!
