I expected better from the officer!

EDITOR—On October 10, I was unfortunate enough to board a bus owned by Teso Karamoja Coaches on my way to Mbale. The vehicle was overloaded so I asked the driver and the conductor to stop allowing in more passengers but they refused.

I told them I would alert the traffic Police if they did not comply but they simply laughed at me. When we set off, I called traffic Police and gave them the details and the officer who answered said they would intercept the bus on the way.

Indeed they did so at Lugogo indoor stadium. The traffic officer who got on the bus ordered off the excess passengers.

So you can imagine my surprise and disappointment when after about an hour of haggling, the excess passengers were got back onto the bus and we drove off!

If we cannot follow and enforce such basic life-saving rules, then there is no hope for Uganda. I expected better from the Police officer What a shame!
