FUFA returning officer Patrick Okanya has tentatively extended the FUFA elective assembly that was scheduled for November 7 by one week.

Mbale District Football Association (MDFA) secured an injunction stopping elections and refused an out of court settlement despite their grievances being addressed by FUFA. Mbale dragged FUFA to court seeking to have district executives included in the electoral colleges at district level which Okanya granted but the plaintiffs have instead pressed on with the case.

Nominations had already got underway but the process was stopped and elections of district delegates and representatives of special interest groups that were due to be conducted this weekend have called off.

“I am hoping that the court case will be sorted out on Tuesday next week and then we have nominations on Wednesday and Thursday then elections delegates on Saturday and Sunday. If things work out like that then the assembly will be on November 14,” Okanya remarked.

Okanya is working around the clock to have the FUFA elective assembly before December 17 when the term of FUFA executive expires.

“I wouldn’t want it to go beyond because I don’t want to be in a crisis,” Okanya stated.

The FUFA constitution is not clear of what happens after FUFA’s term of office expires.
