MOBILE phone theft is common, but the good news is that you can track a stolen phone. This function can be activated in the Samsung phone series.

“The function prompts you to enter two alternative phone numbers. You will receive a message on these alternative numbers when the SIM card is replaced,” explains Paul Tumwesigye, manager Go phones, an authorised phone distributor.

You can set the words that you want the message to read. When the phone is lost or when the SIM card is changed, the tracker sends a message to the original two numbers that you instructed it to.

It also sends the codes for the mast (signal) from which the message is being sent, making it easy to locate the person who is using the phone.
All the series have this functionality but the phones differ in price.

The i780 costs sh1m. The i900, dual SIM card costs sh900,000. The D880 dual SIM card and slide, costs sh650,000. The C5212 with a dual SIM card costs sh600,000 while the D780 costs sh550,000.

Single SIM card phones include the U600 which costs sh450,000, the A J700 costs sh285,000 and the C3053 costs sh270,000.

These are available in phone shops on Kampala Road, Wandegeya and on Jinja Road.

Tumwesigye says the dual SIM card functionality enables the user to receive two calls, reducing the burden of having to carry two phones.
