Local rugby governing body (URU) has landed a two-year sponsorship deal worth $50,000 (sh94m) from sports kit manufacturing company KooGa International.

URU chairman William Blick and KooGa managing director Garry Godwin signed the contract at Kyadondo Rugby Club on Saturday. It was witnessed by Broadband managing director Arviv Knutsen.

According to the contract, KooGa will fully dress all national teams including the U-16, U-18, U-21 and the senior men and women teams.

“We are injecting $25000 (about sh47m) per year for a period two years and there is no compromise on quality of the jerseys to be supplied,” Goodwin remarked at the signing ceremony.

All players on each team will get truck suits, T-shirts, boots, and kit bags, according to Godwin who announced that they will extend support to other sports federations in the country later.

Goodwin explained that the deal is just the start of a long relationship with Uganda. His company had earlier in the day given the Paralympics body ten wheel chairs. He disclosed that they will give another 10 to the rugby union disabled rugby ahead of the Wheelchair 2012 Rugby World Cup in England.

URU chairman William Blick said that a percentage of the cash will be availed to produce replica jerseys for fans and the proceeds go to the union treasury.

KooGa International is the official kits supplier to Kenya and Australia national rugby sevens teams and England’s premier rugby league clubs Saracens and Harlequins.

* Uganda telecom Kobs captain Ronnie Lutakome is optimistic his club is capable of winning the Broadband sevens circuit this year, despite loosing 38-12 to rivals MTN Heathens in the first leg final at Kyadondo over the weekend. Lutakome said his players just showed no dedication for the game.
