Teaching profession in disrepute

Editor—As a teacher in the making, I am embarrassed by the image that some of my predecessors are painting the profession. On October 22, it was reported that two teachers had been charged with defilement and convicted.

This is not the first time that teachers have been in the media for such gross misconduct.
Recently, headteachers came under fire for disappearing with students’ registration fees!
The teaching profession has a code conduct. However, many teachers have exhibited inability to adhere to this code of conduct. This has cheapened the teaching profession and as a result students hate becoming teachers.
