THE rush in the FUFA electoral process raged on with nominations for presidential candidates set to be conducted today, hardly 48 hours after elections of delegates.

Incumbent Lawrence Mulindwa and Kabale delegate Godfrey Kwizera have declared their intentions but rule out a surprise third candidate at your peril. The elective assembly is set for November 14 in Arua.

Nominations for the federation’s top job had been expected next week but returning officer Patrick Okanya on Thursday announced that the exercise would be conducted today at FUFA head offices at Mengo in Kampala .

“Since elections are on November 14, I needed to have the nominations done immediately so to give candidates a long campaign time. I immediately communicated to those who have expressed interest. One needs to simply mobilise three associations so that doesn’t require a lot of time,” Okanya explained.

Okanya warned that each aspirant would be allocated only 90 minutes to complete the process. “It is going to be a one stop centre. You come in, pick the forms and register and walk away after filling all the requirements. All candidates have to book for their time to avoid clashes at the offices,” Okanya said.

One must be a Ugandan citizen elected as a delegate and with a minimum education qualification of Uganda Certificate of Education or its equivalent. They are also required to pay a nomination fee of sh2m and be nominated by an association and seconded by two more associations affiliated to FUFA.
