NATIONAL stroke play leader and defending champion of the Kinyara golf Open Vincent Byamukama is wary of top golfer Stephen Kasaija, as he seeks for a hat-trick at the ninth edition of the Kinyara event that swings November 7-8 in Masindi.

“My confidence going into this tournament is good, but my biggest worry will be meted by Kasaija, who has returned to the game with lots of confidence,” Byamukama said.
“I want to win this tournament for a third year running and I hope I can achieve the feat.”

Kasaija recently returned to the game as an amateur, and is returning good scores on the course.

Kinyara Sugar has sunk sh20m into the golf union event due at the nine hole par 72 course. It will be co-sponsored by Liaison Insurance Uganda and Insurance Company of East Africa.

The highly anticipated event is expected to attract 200 golfers and for the first time a section for junior among them.
Entebbe based Brian Mwesigwa meanwhile beat 180 competitors to the MTN October mug at the par 72 Kitante course Saturday. Mwesigwa shot 73 gross, on count back, to beat Stephen Kasaija to the monthly event.

Moses Kitaka was group A winner with 71 nett while Ken Lubega scooped group B with 68 nett. Charles Ndlovu was the winner of group C with 67 nett.

Monica Ntege was the winner in group A in the ladies category with a score of 70 nett on count back while Alice Kego took group B with 71 nett.

Herman Mutawe won the professionals section with 71 gross and bagged 80 points. The golfers now shift to the quarterly mug and will conclude with the Mug of Mugs event next month.
