CONSIDERING how long her resonant sopranos have been on the local airwaves, it seems like a joke that Angela Kalule has never held a show of her own.

The few times the former Sanyu FM presenter has taken to the stage, it has been as part of the supporting artistes at someone else’s show, or as a guest artiste at private functions.

Thus it is interesting that the power ballad singer has ultimately ventured to stage a show of her own. ‘I think I have now gathered enough good songs to stage a show of my own,’ she said.

Kalule has not called her show an album launch like most artistes do today.
This evening she will stage the ‘Angela Kalule Live and Unwrapped Concert’ at the Golf Course Hotel, Garden City, starting 6:00pm, with revellers paying sh30,000 and sh50,000 for ordinary and VIP tickets, respectively.

The show will also feature artistes Annett Nandujja, Haruna Mubiru and Mesach Ssemakula. Kika Dance Troupe are also part of the mix.

As owner of the night, Kalule, who has played with several bands, should be able to thrill with her numerous ballads accumulated over the years.

Most of these smooth, slowjazz and blues songs are now considered classics in the industry.

They include, Akamuli, Kaneweeyo, Kankwekumire, and her latest Kakondo which has been one of the biggest songs on radio this year and is still among the most popular sounds on the airwaves.

Among fans, 32-year-old Kalule is largely considered Uganda’s best living serenader, while within the industry, many consider her among the best vocal talents.

Kato Lubwama once described her as a real musician and vocalist, who would still draw crowds even if we lived in an age where voices were the only instruments.

Kalule began her music career as a protégé of the late Carol Nakimera and has played in live bands such as Misty Jazz, Diamonds Production and Afrigo Band. She has also worked with Sanyu FM.
