A strong hailstorm left 10 families homeless in Mbalala, Kasenge and Nakapinyi villages in Nama sub-county, Mukono district on Sunday evening.

Plantations, buildings and household items were also destroyed.

The Kasenge Primary School main hall had its roof blown off, leaving several pupils without classrooms.

The headmistress, Grace Mutonyi, said she reported the incident to the LC officials and the district education department.

One of the victims, Madalena Nabukalu, 84, said she lost all her maize, potatoes and cassava crops.

“I don’t have anything to feed on, everything in the garden was destroyed,” she lamented.

The storm also left Christine Nalongo, 60, and her eight grandchildren homeless.

“I lost everything in the rain including the household property. I am appealing for help,” she said.

Nakapinyi LC1 chairperson Sherina Ssali, expressed concern that residents had no food. She called upon the Government to intervene.

This is the second sub-county after Kyampisi to be hit by a hail-storm in the district this month.
