MOSES Kipsiro and Adero Nyakisi will be leading nominees for the UAF Athlete-of-the-year award at the federation’s annual gala on Saturday.

The national athletics federation technical commission meets today to pick nominees for the award set for Grand Imperial Hotel.

Kipsiro is expected to be nominated because of his silver medal at the World Cross country Championships and the fourth place finish at the World Athletics Championships.

He however has to battle with Geoffrey Kusuro, who became the first Ugandan to win a gold medal in the World Mountain Running championships. Upcoming stars Moses Kibet and James Kibet, who won bronze medals at the World Junior and World Mountain running championships respectively, also stand a good chance of nomination.

Nyakisi’s busy season which has seen her crowned the cross country, half marathon, 5000m and 10000m national champion puts her in the lead as the best women athlete.

Nyakisi also set a new national 10000m record on top of winning the source of the Nile and Charlon En Champagne half marathon in France.
