A MEETING to discuss the border dispute between Uganda and Sudan, which had been scheduled for yesterday in Moyo district, was postponed to December 12 due to lack of funds.

The meeting was meant to be attended by officials from the West Nile districts and those from the Central Equatoria region in Southern Sudan.

Moyo resident district commissioner John Abingwa said when they get funds, over 200 people from Koboko, Yumbe, Moyo and Adjumani districts will attend the meeting.

However, Abingwa declined to disclose the amount of money needed to host the meeting.

President Yoweri Museveni and Southern Sudan President Salva Kiir recently toured the disputed border between Moyo district in Uganda and Kajo-keji County of Sudan at Jale Mountain from Uganda.

The two heads of state also met leaders from the two countries and suggested that the communities warring over the border convene a conference to discuss the conflict.

“We don’t need to fight over a five-kilometre stretch of land between us (Uganda and South Sudan), we are one people,” Kiir said.

The leaders also urged the residents to work hard and fight poverty among their communities.
