THE festive season is here. People around the globe use this time for re-union with family members. However, such re-unions come with high expenditure, especially on food and presents.

People usually run out of money, which causes misery and stress immediately after the festive season into the month of January Moses Lutaalo of Kireka says poor planning leads many people to exceed their budgets on Christmas.

He says he ran out of money last festive season because he shopped at the last-minute. “This time, I have already bought clothes for my children and I will buy foodstuffs early to avoid being cheated,” says Lutaalo.

To avoid running out of money, one needs to plan carefully. Below are tips on achieving this.

Plan your shopping
Be careful with each item you buy. Make prior purchases to save some money. Do not buy what you have not planned for since this will affect your financial stand.

Shop early
If you start preparing for Christmas early, you will be able to get commodities at competitive prices. Avoid spontaneous shopping trips as these lead to unplanned spending. It is not wise to shop at around at 5:00pm on Christmas Eve.

Be creative
You may give out gifts to your loved ones this festive season, but these do not necessarily have to be expensive.

Often, the most appreciated gifts are those that are sentimental. So you can make your own chocolate or cookies. You could also consider making your own Christmas cards.
