A total of 11 people were on Sunday ordained deacons and nine confirmed as priests in the North Kigezi Diocese.
The diocesan bishop, the Rt. Rev. Edward Muhima, who presided over the function, urged the newly-confirmed to fulfil their calling by serving people without segregation or malice.

“You were called to serve the people of God. If you know that you are not ready, you are free to announce it and I do not ordain you,” he said before the deacons took oath.

He urged them not to mix church affairs with politics, saying the church did not belong to any political party.
“It will be dangerous if you identify yourself with any political party because it scares away other people with different political ideologies,” Muhima warned.

He added that any priest who wished to join politics was free to resign from the church.
Those ordained as deacons included George Turyamureeba, Baram Buhikire, Gershom Muhumuza, George Arinaitwe, Dickens Baguma and Emmanuel Kakiza.

Others were Christopher Bakesiga, Isaac Beinomugisha, Geoffrey Masiko and James Twebaze.
Caroline Ainebyona requested not to be ordained, citing personal problems.
She said she could not be ordained until her problems are solved.

The priests included Amos Katushabe, Eric Tugume, Jolly Tumwesigye, John Bongyerire, Jackson Kanyihamba, Jack Kajagata, Zadoki Tindiwengi and Eric Karekyezi.

Muhima also elevated seven priests to canons.
He said being a canon was a measure of one’s faith.
He added that canons automatically become bishops' advisors.

Rev. Kenneth Berkin from Canterbury in the UK was among those made canons.
Others were Elisha Waswa, Patrick Nsiga, Nathan Mugisha Kirebete, Herbert Sabiti, Shedrack Muhumuza and Nathan Tigakanya.
