<b>World Vision aids children</b><br>GULU-The World Vision International has constructed 19 classrooms and distributed 1,500 desks, drilled and rehabilitated 150 boreholes.

GULU-The World Vision International has constructed 19 classrooms and distributed 1,500 desks, drilled and rehabilitated 150 boreholes. It also installed 100 water tank reservoirs in schools. The move was aimed at improving the standard of education and safe water coverage in the villages of Acholi sub-region. As part of activities to mark the organisation’s week, its staff built four shelters for orphans and vulnerable children in Oitino and Pabwo parishes in Bungatira sub-county. They also cleaned the Gulu Hospital children’s ward on Monday. ccording to James Kahwa, the regional operations manager of World Vision, these are part of the activities conducted for the last one year to mark World Vision week as the year comes to an end. He said that twelve two-roomed houses have been built using hydrofaom blocks in Bungatira sub-county for the orphans and vulnerable children in Gulu district. An epileptic and disabled woman, Jennet Oroma of Bungatira sub-county benefited from the community work by World Vision as they built her a hut.  

Court clerk held over bribe
PADER-A court clerk at the district magistrates’ court has been arrested for allegedly receiving a bribe of sh300,000 from a woman to have her jailed brother released. Christopher Ariti is said to have received sh300,000 from Doreen Aryemo, the sister of Christopher Akiya, who was on November 17 sentenced to a one-year imprisonment for malicious damage to property. According to detective Albino Akena, the acting officer in charge of crime at Pader district Police Station, Aryemo reported the incident to the resident district commissoner, who alerted the Police.“The clerk is now under Police custody up to Monday when we shall produce him in court on charges of corruption,” Akena added. “We have been trying very hard to fight corruption in Pader district. We had laid this trap for one week to have this court clerk arrested and charged with corruption,” Pader RDC, Santo Okot Lapolo said. He added that this is a land dispute that was turned into a criminal trespass and malicious damage to property. “Initially Aryemo had paid sh150,000 to this court clerk who demanded sh350,000. Lapolo explained that he gave the woman sh200,000 to add on the sh100,000 that she had raised to give the court clerk to release her brother from jail. The RDC added that their fight against corrupt government officials who ask for bribes from members of the public would continue. On Wednesday, the acting police commander of Oyam district, Hassan Ali Inziku was netted at Mabros hotel in Oyam town where he is alleged to have received a bribe of sh1m from a client. It’s alleged that Inziku asked Jackson Omara for sh5m to release his father, Alfred Obura who had been detained over land dispute.
