RONALD Ssebuguzi put up a flawless display to win the Central Motor Club challenge rally and capture the 2009 National Rally Championship in Mukono yesterday.
Ssebuguzi, in a Mitsubishi Evo4 just needed to finish seventh to reclaim the national title he last won in 2006, but his pace gave him a bonus by winning the season-ender in Mukono yesterday.
Ssebuguzi, who was unstoppable in the second leg, which was run under heavy downpour, clocked two hours eight minutes and 18 seconds, beating Mogas Rally Team’s Nasser Mutebi by two minutes.
Mutebi, put up a spirited challenge but the Jomayi Property Consultants Ssebuguzi proved unstoppable.
“It has been one long season full of mixed fortunes but I am glad my car was still good enough to give me good results. I dedicate this title to my sponsors Jomayi, for without his support, I wouldn’t have won it,†Ssebuguzi said.
Ssebuguzi who won four of the six NRC events, accumulated 435 points, to beat his main challenger , 19-year old Shafiq Ssemuju by a massive 120 points.
Semujju, who went into the season’s closing race with a slim chance, was troubled by mechanical problems and settled for third position.
Ken Ntaro, Arthur Tibashoboka and Abdu Ssempebwa finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
