EDITOR—In the early days of the born-again churches in Uganda, there was a common rumour that pastors got money from abroad just to ‘Westernise’ Ugandans. Many pastors came out to disprove this by showing their loyalty to Ugandan values.
At one time, the Kabaka even launched the now praised Born Again Impact Fm station. Pastors like Dr. Sserwadda and Robert Kayanja also took the lead by always reminding listeners of their clans whenever on radio.
Unfortunately today, it is becoming easier to believe that there is Western financial influence since whatever is Ugandan is being demonised indirectly.
Names like Muwanguzi and Mukutulanjegere are now replacing clan names. One thing today’s pastors are forgetting is that even Jesus of Nazareth was never denied a chance to live in Nazareth as a Jew. He was even circumcised. If clans and culture have been ‘satanic’ for all this long, how has Africa survived to this day?
More so, pastors should give standpoints on the current events in the country instead of waiting to support the winning side. David Kuteesa Mpigi
