UGANA'S biggest music awards ceremony this year, the Afrika Diva Music Awards (ADMA) gala at the Theatre Laboniota in Kampala ended with Cinderella Sanyu a.k.a Cindy, at former Blu 3 singer as the night’s big winner.

Cindy was named Diva of the Year award. The award comes with shs5m prize money. The jovial Ayokyayokya singer, who went solo earlier this year and was a clear crowd favourite, beat equally feisty fellow young singers Desire Luzinda, Grace Nakimera and Iryn Namubiru.

She picked her plaque and prize money from the chairman organizing committee, Kaggwa Kalule.

Started this year, the Afrika Diva Awards exclusively reward female talent in Uganda. The red carpet ceremony kicked off at 7:00pm prompt and ended just before midnight with the Cindy’s crowning.

Chilli Galz, who had just been crowned New Divas’ Group of the year, showed the crowd why they deserved the accolade when they put on a show-stopping performance.

Right from their costumes to their performances, the girls were simply electrifying.

As usual, South African-based singer, Zari, who took home the Diaspora Diva’s award; excited the crowd with more than generous show of flesh.

However, the biggest eyesore of the event was that fact that most artistes did not pick up their plagues (which came with a cash prize of sh1m) in person.

They were reportedly out of town. In all, for a first time function, it was a fair try. Next year will be the real test of its endurance.
