NICO Insurance Company has developed a livestock policy to help farmers protect their herds.

NICO Insurance Company has developed a livestock policy to help farmers protect their herds, writes Charles Bwogi.

“This product is a response to the needs of especially, cattle keepers, who have for long been left out, yet they face so many natural and unnatural risks,” Ronald Zake, the managing director, said.
He said the policy covers deaths, illness and accidents.

“The policy also covers emergency cases like emergency mass slaughters, which may be due to highly-contagious epidemics like foot and mouth disease,” Zake said.

He said to ensure proper coverage, the insured animals should be marked or branded so that they are easily identified.
