Spectrum, the distinctive place

LA Bonita Theatre was until a fortnight ago home to only the Ebonies actors. But apparently that wasn't all that this magnificent theatre could bring forward. They figured, if comedic appeal could be derived from the acting, surely this would inevitably work up an appetite.

Their fast food section wasn't doing all the justice, the idea of a swanky and glamorous restaurant named Spectrum on the top floor came to mind.
From the entrance of the Spectrum restaurant you are ushered into a comftable lounge area where a metredere will lead you to your table.

Upon entrance, you are met by an air-conditioned room with fashionable tables as far as the eye can see. One of the very first attributes to the place are the seven enormous sized aquariums with golden fish wobbling about, this is a posh plush for a fancy restaurant, but there is also such a thing as too much fish.

Although situated in an enclosed room, it has giant size windows that open to a view of the city, compelling one to opt for dinner in a bid to secure a good view.
As you walk in, to your immediate left, the buffet section glimmers with the appeal of candy to a child.

Hosting an international buffet with Chinese, Italian, Indian, Continental, Ugandan and the seldom Mexican cuisines, the Spectrum Restaurant already sticks out as the only place in town with this much variety under one roof.

Even with a two week grace period, the starters section is equally as impressive with entrées like soup of the day, avocado spreads, prawns in a yoghurt cream, vegetable salad and a variety of dressings.

As if they carefully did their homework, the Spectrum Restaurant serves dishes that the average restaurant frequenter will hunker after. For example, the Chinese section offers the quintessential shredded beef, sweet and sour pork and chicken wings with onion rings.

The Indian frontier has the chicken tikka masala, Tandoori drumsticks and the Continental boasts of fish pancakes and pork chops while the Ugandan section consists of dishes like matooke, Luwombo, groundnut paste and plantain.

As for the dessert, the list is quite extensive and consists of regulars and options such as chocolate mousse, pineapple crumble, fruit jellies, black forest cake and a choice of fruit salad with cream. The entire buffet goes for sh29,900.

The dinner setting is done with distinct flair- fine water glasses, fine cutlery, and wine glasses except for the salt and pepper shakers that would easily be confused for perfume bottles.
