THERE is a wide variety of vegetables on sale at pocket friendly prices. According to a market survey we conducted recently, you can purchase a kilogram of tomatoes and onions at sh1, 000, a heap of carrots for as little as sh300 and a fruit of green paper, lemon and cucumber for as little as sh200 in most markets around.

Now that vegetables are in season, you can make a garden vegetable salad for your family.

Richard Ssevviiri a nutritionist with Healthy Snack at Garden city says that a garden vegetable salad is good for our health because it has got the highest natural nutrients needed for the body since the vegetables are eaten raw.

Ssevviiri adds that apart from providing the body with nutrients, the roughage in the vegetables helps to enhance the process of digestion and at the same time detoxify the digestive tract. The salad helps to reduce on the cholesterol content in the body.

He adds that the salad is feeling to eat and is good especially for people who are dieting and the vegetarians.

Ssevviiri advises that it is recommendable to take it at least five times a week for people who are dieting while those who are not dieting can have it three times a week.

Sseviiri explains that to make a garden vegetable salad, you should have the ingredients below:

Ingredients
-2-3 ripe tomatoes (preferably the oval shape)
* 2 big bulb onions
* 1 green paper
* 2 carrots
* 1 cucumber
* ½ ripe avocado
* 1 lemon
* A pinch of salt

Procedure
-Wash the vegetables using clean warm water. The warm water helps to kill the germs since the vegetables are eaten raw.
* Peel the vegetables except the tomatoes and slice them into small pieces.
* Put the salad in a clean bowl.
* Squeeze the lemon to get juice and pour the juice on the salads.

The lemon juice works as a dressing.
* Add a pinch of salt to the salads in the bowl and mix them together.
* Serve the salad.
