DRIVERS will forfeit all their Africa Rally Championship points if they fail to compete in at least four events.
“In that case, the points will not be redistributed to those still in the championship. The results of each driver and co-driver are counted from the date of registration for the championship, regulations released by Confederation of African Countries in Motorsport (CACMS) chairman Surinder Thatthi stated.
Surinder also set April 30 as the deadline for registration for the 2007 season that flags off in Tanzania next month. Registration fee is euros 204 (sh0.5m) per individual. Late registration is only permitted when one changes a co-driver.
To qualify within the final classification of the championship, a registered competitor must have started in at least one rally.
The championship is classified into Northern, Central and Southern regions.
Northern has Uganda and Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania are in central while Zimbabwe and Zambia form the southern region.
The 2008 regulations maintained the total competitive section distance at a minimum of 280km and a maximum of 420km.
Any air assistance for crews taking part in the championship is forbidden. Only communication from the air to the crew is permitted.
Competitors are also required to wear fire-proof overalls and underwear.
