MTN has offered sh150m as the main sponsors of the 5th edition of All Africa University Games in July.

The MTN package includes cash, trophies, medals, 30,000 T-shirts, airtime and entertainment during the games.

The deal was finalised early this week and the two parties are due to sign a Memorandum of Understanding before officially unveiling it.

The games are expected to attract up to 50 countries and will be staged in Makerere University July 6-16.

“This sponsorship is timely because we needed the money as soon as possible to put few things right. There are other companies considering our requests for them to take up specific items on the budget,” NUSFU president Peninah Kabenge said yesterday.

The telecomunications company late last year rescued the national univeristy games by offering sh100m to the university sports federation NUSFU.

The committee needs sh6bn to stage the championship at Makerere University. They have so far realised close to sh3bn.

The universities will compete in football, volleyball, handblall, basketball, chess, squash, rugby, swimming, netball and table tennis among other disciplines.
