Many of us have probably heard about Mirembe Campbell. Born in Australia to a Ugandan mother, Mirembe has for five years, awed Europe and Australia with her acting skills.

Finally, she has been allowed to take a break off her busy schedule and return home to perform at a charity concert.
She is in Uganda for the first time and will host the show alongside multi-award winning internationally acclaimed gospel artiste Kay Morris from Canada, Herbert Kinobe & Soul Beat Africa, Sandra Karigirwa, Ngoni and Sarah Ndagire.

The concert will also feature artist Jane Musoke Nteyafas and Miss East Africa UK, Maureen Nyakaira.

Guests will part with sh100, 000. The proceeds will go to the children of the Nyaka Orphan’s School. Mirembe tells us about herself, her big heart for children and how she conquered showbiz in the UK.

You are giving up showbiz and coming back home to stay for good, right?
Oh, no. I am here for only seven days and will be going back to London as soon as I am through with the Nyaka Eire Concert. I cannot imagine my life without showbiz. I have been in showbiz since I was five years old and now eat, drink, breathe, sleep and even dream showbiz. London is the best place for that.

Are you disappointed by what you have seen on your maiden visit back home?
On the contrary, it is heaven here. Uganda is so beautiful and the people are warm and friendly. There are so many fresh fruits and vegetables all over the place. Oh, do you know where I can find nsenene (grasshoppers)? What a wonderful break this is from all the hustle and bustle of showbiz in London,

So where does Mirembe Campbell fall on London’s ‘who is who list’?
I am just a simple woman. Call me a mother who is also obsessed with showbiz. I have done everything from modelling for billboards and magazine covers, presenting on TV, to acting in soaps and movies.

My latest movie is How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, with Thandie Newton and George Clooney. But now I am fully booked as the face of Gisella B, a high fashion house in London. Away from all that, I am Malaika’s mother.

How do you find juggling life between the cameras and your three-year-old daughter, Malaika?
It is a hell of a task, oh my God! I cannot imagine the pains that single working class mothers go through to raise their children.

I am grateful that I am staying with my mother who has no problem nursing Malaika, driving her to school, walking her out on weekends, etc, while I am away at work. And when I return, I pamper my little one with all sorts of things that a child craves for.

Ok, I cannot make up for all the love lost between me and Malaika, but deep within me, I believe that I am the mirror of what I want my daughter to be when she grows up.

Any other guilty pleasures?
I am obsessed with shopping and buying nice things. Sometimes I regret the fact that I spend so much money on all these luxuries, yet there are children who do not even have breadcrumbs to eat.

I am also obsessed with drinking expensive champagne. At the end of a binge, I regret that I have spent all that much money on toxins and now I am going to need a detox to keep healthy.

Do you see yourself posing before the cameras at 45 years?
Yeah, why not? Then, I will even have my own line of clothes or beauty products.

Would you try cosmetic surgery to keep up the good looks?
Aargh, hell, no! I think it is really unfortunate that we, women, feel more insecure as we age and we have to keep fighting to turn back the clock.

How was it working with Thandie Newton in How To Lose Friends And alienate People?
She is a nice person and we have become attached to each other. In London, no one cares about another person’s interests. But Thandie is different.

She is the sort of person who encourages you to turn to her when you feel like breaking down. She talks to me in such a way that gives me strength to face more hurdles in showbiz. She is heaven-sent.

Another person that you especially treasure?
I love Emma Jal. He is a former war child from Southern Sudan. The fact that he has been through hell and back, makes him outstanding.

He has a new hip-hop album and one of the songs says that western countries treat Africa like a vagina! I believe nothing could be more sincere.
