MAUREEN Nankya, a local pop artiste, is one of the actresses in Mariam Ndagire’s maiden movie, Down This Road I Walk.
Nankya acts as the malevolent Suzan, who goes against all odds to seduce her best friend’s husband.

She is a character one would love to hate indeed! Nankya’s debut movie is showing at Bat Valley Theatre this Friday. Let us grace ourselves for what she has in store for us.

Meanwhile, offstage, Nankya is like any ordinary happy-go-lucky but stylish student of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA).

Do you like Nankya’s look and want to achieve it? There are two shopping options for you. You can opt for shops uptown or downtown depending on how much you are willing to part with.
An example of the uptown shop where you can buy Nankya’s outfit is Sunset Arcade, Wilson Road.

The oversize T-shirt costs sh25,000 from Kagame’s Boutique, while three-quarter pants costs 20,000 from the Lala’s Collection.

At the latter shop, you can also buy those numerous multi-coloured bracelets that Nankya wears.
They cost sh12,000 a dozen.
The big yellow plastic loops cost sh5,000 a pair.

However, if want to have the rest of Nankya’s accessories but in genuine or guarantee gold, you can proceed further uptown.

At Jit Jewellers on Cham Towers, gold rings cost sh80, 000. A big bracelet alike to Nankya’s, but made out genuine gold, will cost you about sh120,000.
Gold necklaces cost sh40, 000 and above.

From there, a one can proceed to Ex-Options Boutique on Jumbo Plaza for Nankya’s exact shoes where they cost between sh45,000 to sh70,000.

The hair do could cost sh70,000 from the Freddie’s Salon on the Katatumba Suites.
Altogether, one can spend sh460,000 shopping for Nankya’s look from uptown.
Still craving for that look but do not have that much to spend? Do not worry.

Go to the Mukwano Arcade behind the Old Taxi Park and you will be sure to pick the three-quarter pants for sh7,000 a pair.

Be sure to haggle but take note, the clothes are often imported from mass markets in Thailand and Hong Kong and China and will not last long.
A similar, boldly-printed oversize T-shirt at the Mukwano arcade, it would cost sh15,000.

The earrings, bracelets, bangles and necklace could altogether cost sh10, 000 if one bought them from the Nabugabo roadside.

It is important to note that much as these are tawdry things, which may look like Nankya’s, they will, however lose the surface glitter within a few days.
You can also get cheap tawdry ladies’ watches from hawkers in the old taxi park for sh25, 000.

One thing is for sure, you cannot easily obtain Nankya’s exact shoes from downtown. You can however, get any of the sh13, 000 strap-on high heels from the Qualicell Terminal.

Whether you spend sh70,000 or sh460,000 on achieving Nankya’s look, and whether you want to have an outfit from Thailand or Europe remains your choice.
