THE Egyptian government has donated sh769m for the renovation of Itojo Hospital in Ntungamo district.
The funds will specifically be used in the renovation of the pediatrics and maternity wards, the water and sewerage system, as well as the construction of three new staff houses.
Touring the hospital recently to check on the progress of the works, the First Lady Janet Museveni commended the Egyptian government for its support to Uganda’s health sector.
The funds were released through the Egyptian Fund for Technical Co-operation with Africa, a State House statement said yesterday.
“This is a manifestation of the spirit of brotherhood and friendship that exist between Uganda and Egypt,†the statement quoted Mrs. Museveni as saying.
She also appealed to the health ministry to extent support to Itojo and other referral hospitals, saying it would ease pressure on national hospitals.
Mrs. Museveni, who is also the Ruhaama county MP, was flanked by the Egyptian ambassador to Uganda Reda Bebars.
