ON Wednesday night, I and a group of passengers refused to paying sh700 to Naalya from Ntinda. It almost turned ugly with us facing insults and intimidation from the taxi fraternity. We, however, stood our ground and eventually got one driver who was willing to take us for sh500. He and his conductor were roundly insulted and threatened by their colleagues.

One of the threats the taxi operators made was that we should brace ourselves, in response to our mini-protest, for fares to be increased to sh1,500. Doesn’t Naalya have an MP and councillors? Who will speak for the Naaly residents?
