THE local football fraternity was last week rocked by the sacking of a FUFA marketing and sponsorship committee heavyweight.

Dennis Mbidde was jettisoned for what FUFA boss Lawrence Mulindwa scathingly described as financial indiscipline.

Mbidde’s sacking was shortly followed by resignation of fellow committee members Aldrine Nsubuga and Fred Muwema.

For those who might have forgotten, this is the SOS trio that caused the imprisonment of former FUFA president Denis Obua for what are interestingly the same misdeeds that Mbidde is being accused.

At this point it’s still hard to make a ruling on whether Mbidde is financially upright or Mulindwa being a high handed dictator.

While Mulindwa claims to have more than enough proof to convict Mbidde, the victim has also warned that he will counter with a killer punch. It’s therefore a matter of time before the public makes its own judgement.

But in the interim, one thing that Mulindwa should be commended for, is his ability to crack the whip.

He has indeed lived to his 2007 AGM promise of reshuffling his team for the sake of improving performance.

Like one analyst put it, if coaches or managers can be relieved of their duties on the bench, why should those in the boardrooms be indispensable?

What makes Mulindwa’s action historic is the fact that it’s the first time in decades that a FUFA boss is taking such punitive action.

In the past, executive members were either too big for the president, or it was simply a case of total malaise where corrupt leaders had no moral authority to effect discipline.

Mbidde’s sacking however heralds a new trend that should awaken the entire FUFA to the fact that no one is above the law.

This also applies to Mulindwa.
