THE parliamentary social services committee has given the Shree Sanatan Dharma Mandal community two days to submit documents proving ownership of the Bat Valley Primary School plot.
On January 16, the community agreed to submit the documents to the MPs on Tuesday.
However, it has asked for more two weeks to prepare the documents.
“The Indian community is not in position to discuss the Bat Valley land wrangles today. We don’t have the necessary documents,†Alex Rezida, the association’s lawyer, pleaded.
But the committee chairman, James Kubeketerya (NRM), insisted that the association was given enough time to prepare the papers.
“The last time we met during the inspection of the land (on January 16), you said all the documents were ready.
“Considering the fact that schools are opening on February 4, you must appear before this committee on Thursday with all the necessary documents,†he ruled.
But Ruhaama MP Janet Museveni (NRM) said the Shree community needed more time.
“The committee should give the Indian community some time until they produce the required documents. If we do not listen to the Indian community, the committee may fail to solve the land issue amicably,†Janet said.
Both the parents and the school’s management petitioned Parliament over Shree community’s threat to evict them.
