IN a classic chance of a lifetime, a Standard Chartered Bank customer walked into the bank’s strong room and picked up sh10m in 30 seconds.

Andrew Lusembo of Uganda Business House got the chance during the second draw of the Big Win Promotion that was held in Jinja on January 8.

Lamin Manjang, the bank’s chief executive officer, said without savings, financial institutions would have no money to lend to other sectors.

“The campaign has been successful. We are helping people to save with banks because savings are a key catalyst in the economy.”

The other winners in the second draw were Ultra Tech, which took a 42-inch plasma screen, while three others won fully-connected GTV dishes and four more took Nokia mobile phones.

Yustus Aribariho, the marketing manager, said two more draws would be conducted, one in Mbarara and the other in Kampala. The grand winner will drive home a new Toyota Hilux double cabin pick-up.

To take part in the campaign, new customers are required to open a current or savings account with a minimum balance of sh500, 000, while existing customers with a balance of sh500,000 get a coupon for the draws.
