KARIM Somani shot three-under-par 69 nett to win the MTN January Mug at Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Kitante on Saturday. Somani edged out 16-year-old Morris Ntege to the prize by just two strokes. Maureen Nasimolo shot 69 nett to capture the ladies’s Mug.
In the professional event Godfrey Mande, Denis Anguyo and Rwandan Emmanuel Ruterana shared top spot with 71 apiece to lead the series with 4000 points each. The professionals will pick up prize money after three months basing on points accumulated.
MTN Uganda last week introduced a sh75m professional series to the monthly mug tournament.
The three-year deal will attract top golfers from across East Africa. South Africa Airways also joined MTN as co-sponsors of the monthly mug. The competition that attracted over 80 players set in motion activities at the the leading club in the country.
