THE Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) yesterday gave the parliamentary committee on commissions and statutory authorities a full list of its employees.

The tax body had on Tuesday released the list of employees showing the number of positions occupied by tribe and region.
The list, however, named only five board members and 23 commissioners.

This angered some MPs, who alleged that the tax body was concealing information on distribution of professional and permanent positions.

The committee will now scrutinise the fresh list, which indicates full names of employees, sex, department, division, station of operation, tribe and district of origin.

“Our research team will look at details of who is employed where and regional representation in the professional jobs,” said John Odit, the chairperson of the committee.

The list is, however, silent on the qualification of the employees, information MPs still insist must be availed.

URA was asked to hand over the list of its employees to counter allegations that it mostly employs people from western Uganda.

The committee will also today scrutinise how the permanent secretary in the tourism ministry, Sam Nahamya and his finance counterpart, Chris Kassami, were appointed URA board members.

The Auditor General reported that the two, and board chairman Kironde Kabanda, do not attend board meetings, but send representatives who receive sitting allowances.
