UB40’s lead vocalist and guitarist, Ali Campbell, will be leaving the group he has performed with for over 30 years, after the Uganda show slated for February 23.
Campbell is to pursue a solo career, the band revealed in a statement recently. The very last gigs for this reggae outfit from Birmingham, UK, will be held next month in Australia and New Zealand. A spokesperson for the band said Campbell voluntarily took the decision to focus on his solo career.
“The other band members are saddened after being together for almost 30 years,†the statement said.
Campbell, however, said UB40 would continue to record and perform with the other seven members. Campbell features on 24/7, the band’s next album.
Formed in 1978, UB40 have sold over 70 million records, including three UK number one singles — Red Red Wine, I Got You Babe and Can’t Help Falling in Love.
