When will the ‘Obusinga’ be recognised?

EDITOR—I am crying out to the government to formally recognise the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu as one of the kingdoms in Uganda.

EDITOR—I am crying out to the government to formally recognise the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu as one of the kingdoms in Uganda.

All avenues have been sought and thoroughly explored and only one verdict has consistently come up— the Bakonzo deserve to be respected and recognised as a people who should enjoy their fundamental and constitutional right to belong to a cultural institution.
Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu has been in existence for over 44 years and has withstood all kinds of storms and has maintained the support of the majority of the people.

Memoranda and commissions have repeatedly reflected the wishes of the people, but the Government has dragged its feet over the formal recognition of the kingdom. For how long shall the bakonzo wait?

In practice, everyone, including government officials and the President himself, address Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma as king, but for some reason beyond my understanding, they have not officially declared him so. As a people we feel grossly demoralised.

How shall we realise that truly power lies in the hands of the people? What happened to the report by the NRM cadres in Kasese? I appeal to Dr. Crispus Kiyonga – the only Konzo minister to facilitate the recognition process of the Obusinga.
