THE time to be more passionate and share with your loved ones is back again. With love in the air, dining out could spice up the day. This Valentine’s season, many people will be spoilt for choice as there are various newly-refurbished hotels.

This Valentine’s season, many people will be spoilt for choice as there are various newly-refurbished hotels. Roger Mugisha brings you some of the places worth visiting

SHANGHAI RESTAURANT
THE restaurant, located on Ternan Avenue will play jazz on Valentine’s Day. The décor will have a red theme and the waiters will also dress in red.
Everyone will receive a glass of sparkling wine. The soups will range from hot and sour, wonton, thick mushroom sauce with corn, clear vegetable and baby corn.

The main course will be a Lover’s Garden. It comprises a circular garden made of rice crisp, a generous portion of sweet and sour beef with chicken or pork.

The restaurant will serve red and green chilies; the red chili will be chopped at the head and stuffed with sweet and sour fish and the green one with chicken, cashew nuts and will be served with vegetable fried rice.

PROTEA HOTEL, KOLOLO
Starters will comprise cognac-laced onion soup, pasta, seafood, oriental beef, apple coleslaw and avocado salad, pickles, relishes, gherkins and chutneys.
Also to be served is smoked ham, salami, pastrami, roast chicken, roast beef, among others.

The carving station will have a Rosemary roasted leg of lamb with mint sauce. Lovers will also be treated to a mouth-watering dessert comprising gulab jamun, apple pie with brandy sauce, strawberry soufflé, mixed fruit tart and mini pastries.

METROPOLE HOTEL
The new hotel on Acacia Avenue will serve a multi-cultural cuisine with Ugandan, Indian, Thai, Chinese, continental and coastal foods.
For starters, tormatillo soup will be served.

Tormatillo is a Mexican chicken soup with tormatillos and chicken breast meat cooked in stock and seasoned with fresh jalapenos, garlic and cayenne pepper.
The soup will be served with assorted salads ranging from kacumbali, Thai and oriental to avocado Marie Rose, cucumber and salami salad.

Valentine buttered potatoes, mild chicken curry, steak Madagascar, blobby fishnet, fried vegetable rice, fried plantain, roasted goat anglaise and groundnut sauce will also be served.

SPECTRUM RESTAURANT
The restaurant is above Theatre La Bonita. It will serve crème of baby marrow with fresh herbs and a chicken consumme celestine with white/brown bread rolls or garlic bread.

Starters will consist of drumsticks and buffalo wings. The main course, dubbed the Lover’s Lane will comprise a hot buffet with items like rice biriyani, mixed sautéed vegetables, chicken tikka masala, beef oxtail and local food.

Artiste Juliana Kanyomozi will perform love ballads in a candlelit setting.

MAMBA POINT, AKII BUA ROAD
For starters, this Italian hub will serve marinated sardines and rocket salad on a bed of aubergines (egg plants) fried in light butter. Starters will also comprise melted cheese on toast and gazpacho salad topped with almonds and grilled shrimps.

The main course will consist of linguine with egg, parsley, mint and basil in olive oil, tilapia fillet on a bed of mushrooms and vegetables. Also to be served is spaghetti with cauliflower, anchovy and black olives or cork-shaped pasta with cheese toppings, orange and lemon rind.

The restaurant will also serve home-made spinach, potato dumplings in melted butter with ham, parmesan cheese and saffron risotto with pumpkin.
Courgette, gorgonzola cheese, tender fillet steak on a bed of vegetables dressed with delicate basil and garlic sauce will also be served.

Beef coated in chicken liver pâté and wrapped in chicken breast, mushroom and truffle sauce are also on the menu.
