STATE House is investigating a land row involving Kabale municipal authorities and a local businessman.
In a January 29 letter to the Kabale resident district commissioner, the director of land matters at State House, Gertrude Njuba, said they were probing the dispute between the municipal council and Tadeo Karekyezi, a resident of Makanga in Butobere ward.
“In order to ensure that peace and harmony prevail in the area, there is need to stop the demolition, destruction of crops and houses on the disputed land until the matter has been resolved,†Njuba said.
The letter was copied to various offices including the Kabale land board and the district internal security officer.
Land wrangles in the district have caused several deaths, conflicts and constitute over 60% of cases lodged at the Kabale courts of law.
The land pressure in the area is due to overpopulation and poverty that have bogged the district for years due to lack of cash crops that would generate revenue for the locals.
