FORMER LRA abductees in the north have hope of leading a better life after the Japanese Government constructed them a vocational training school in Gulu worth $83,631 (sh143m).
The Japanese Ambassador, Keiichi Kato, last week commissioned the Terra Renaissance Vocational Training Centre at Kanyagoga parish in Bar-Dege Division.
He said the centre currently trains more than 100 children from the Acholi sub-region.
Terra Renaissance is an NGO that works for peace in the northern region in partnership with the Gulu NGO Forum.
Kato said he hoped the training would help the ex-abductees forget and heal from the trauma they experienced at the hands of the LRA rebels while in captivity.
“Japan remains committed in helping unfortunate children shape their future to become self-reliant by giving them vocational skills in various fields,†he said.
The Gulu resident district commissioner, Col. Walter Ochora, thanked the Japanese for constructing a youth centre at Koro sub-county in Omoro county.
