UGANDAN champions NIC announced a strong bid for the East Africa netball club championship with a 61-22 rout of compatriots Uganda Police at Nakivubo yesterday, reports Samson Opus.

The victory strengthened NIC’s chances of dethroning defending champions Jeshi Stars of Tanzania, who edged Uganda Prisons 50-39 in the opening match.

Annet Nakiwu was on song for NIC as she solely contributed a game high 20 points.

Nakiwu’s feat forced Police to replace shooter Christine Lamuno with Eunide Abalo but could do little to check the steam in NIC players.

The Ugandan champions were due to face their Tanzanian counterparts Jeshi Stars in a crucial encounter late yesterday.

In the men’s category, holders Zanzibar Police displayed their prowess by beating Dynamic of Uganda 45-36.
