THE Ministry of Works and Transport has started widening and reinstating water channels in Lufuka along Entebbe Road.
The water channels had been blocked, resulting into floods that destroyed houses and other property last November.
The construction work started after the works minister, John Nasasira, visited the area.
Lufuka is a wetland and connects Namasuba, Ndejje, Zana and Bunamwaya villages in Makindye Ssabagabo sub-county in Wakiso district.
Ssalongo Musoke, the chairman of Lufuka-Bunamwaya zone said the volume of water collected in Lufuka, especially during the rainy season, require big and stronger water channels that can collect water which would flow to Busaabala, and eventually into Lake Victoria.
The recent Lufuka floods also attracted President Museveni’s attention. He visited flood victims and appealed to locals to stop blocking the water channels by setting up structures in them.
